Lauren has finally spread her wings and left the nest. I suppose these days a child leaving home at the age of 23 is pretty common, if not early. The housing crisis means adults are often still living with their parents into their 30s.

Last week, we helped her move into her new place in London. She started her first professional job as a speech therapist today.

It’s going to be weird for all of us but I’m excited for her. A new job, new city, new flatmates and colleagues, and all the opportunities that they bring.

I lived and worked in London for 6 months in the 90s and it had a lasting impression on me. I loved every minute of it. I’m yet to find anywhere in the world that has the sheer number and variety of things to do and see. On my days off I would often walk for miles, purposely getting lost - a new discovery on every corner. London is endlessly fascinating. The plan was to have spent 2024 in London, but c’est la vie!

My current predicament means I’ll be living vicariously through her for a while, and I’ll definitely miss her support. She’s been helping Rach look after me since my diagnosis. I’ll forever be grateful.
