For the last few days firefighters have been battling to contain large bush fires on North Stradbroke Island, which is a short hop across the bay from where we live in Cleveland.
The gallery above shows the scene as smoke billows from the island. Residents of the island are on standby to evacuate if necessary but so far the firefighters have been successful in keeping the fires away from the residential areas.
